The other side of Hudson's river

Living in a town is like forging a relationship. The courting, the discovery, the disagreements. The reoccurring question: Is this a good lifelong partnership?

That's what it's like for me anyway as I pass the days, months, and years living in Hudson. Some things I like. Some not as much. But I am committed to learning all I can about this place, to enjoying my time here, and to leaving it a little better than how I found it.

And that's how the toddler and I ended up on the Assabet River last Saturday, paddling upstream and then floating back, enjoying the foliage, spotting a rare mink along the shore, making sure we didn't tip our rented kayak into the chilled autumn water. What better way is there to get to know a place than navigating its channels?
