What is it about toddlers that makes them so good at noticing details? And what is it about us adults that makes us so oblivious to them?
These queries first appeared when we thought our 2.5-year-old had a superhero-like ability to spot sounds and sights almost beyond adult sensory range. Then we figured out most kids are like this. They notice airplanes dozens of miles away, just specks on the horizon really. Plenty of times I've said, "Hmmm, I'm not sure there is a plane out there right now ... oh wait, there it is." Kids and air traffic controllers are usually right when it comes to the skies.
Other special ability sightings include birds, squirrels, fire trucks, police cars, "diggers," and any car that's the same make and model as his grandma's.
